TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA)-- Airport officials are ready to spend nearly a half million dollars to renovate the Tupelo Regional Airport's fixed base operator.

In just a few days, the Tupelo Aviation will complete a huge renovation project.

The building will provide much more space and comfort for the pilots and travelers.
"We've completely rennovated everything. We've just ripped the entire place out.  A few of the existing exterior walls are staying. But, everything interior is completely redone," said Tupelo Aviation FBO Manager David Smith.

It's a huge price tag, but officials say the work is worth every penny.

"When a private or buisness aircraft lands, we of course meet them out on the apron. And, our faces are the first ones they see when they get off the aircraft," Smith continued.

He says they provide visitors with just about everything they could need from fueling services, hanger services, rental cars, hotel accomadations, and even catering.

"So, we've got a $500,000 project that makes room for new buisness at the Tupelo Airport as well as expanding or improving our existing business out at the FBO which is our front door to the community," replied Tupelo Regional Airport Executive Director Josh Abramson.

Abramson says local citizens who want to learn to fly or visitors will now have a much better facility.

"The first thing a lot of the customers when they get off they come and look at our bathrooms. And, the bathrooms were old. They were dingy.  The shower stall was right there and exposed to the rest of it. That's the biggest improvements we've made is the bathrooms," Abramson continued.

The entire project should be completed within a couple of days.

There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 1st.

The Tupelo Aviation manager says 30 to 40 flights land at the facility daily.
