TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A new look is unfolding almost daily at Tupelo's Gumtree park in downtown.
One hundred eighty two trees will be planted throughout the park.
Those trees arrived Wednesday morning.
Work began this summer on the $950,000 project.
When complete, the park will have two paved parking lots, new playground, amphitheater, renovated pavilion and an expanded walking trail.
"Oh! It's exciting. The whole purpose of this was to make this park a sample of what all our park system is about and now when people come into Tupelo off Highway 45 it's gonna be a great gateway to downtown Tupelo," Tupelo Parks and Recreation Director Don Lewis said.
The new tree varieties include maple, cypress, crepe myrtles and pines.
