OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- Long time U.S. Appeals Court Judge Thomas Coleman presided over the investiture ceremony Tuesday afternoon for his son.
Mississippi Supreme court Justice Josiah Coleman won election to the post in November.
The 40-year-old Toccopola native is the third generation to wear the robes.
His grandfather, former Governor J-P Coleman, also served briefly as a high court justice in Mississippi.
"That family legacy is something that informs what I've done. And, I grew up around conversations about our judicial system and serving the people of our state. So, I think it's fair to say I have the desire to have this position."
Coleman began his duties on the state supreme court on January 7, but it's traditional to have a formal investiture ceremony at a later time.
