GUNTOWN, Miss. (WTVA) -- The effort to acquire more grant money continues in Guntown.

That's where plans are in the works to build a wastewater pipe that leads to Saltillo's wastewater treatment plant.

Guntown has already received a $300,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission.

That money will go toward the $1.2 million price tag.

Mayor Robert Herring said what the town does not raise in grant money will have to be borrowed.

He added this is a project that is the most cost-effective route for Guntown.

"It is outdated and would cost much more money to fix the one we have," Mayor Herring said.

Construction is set to begin in the summer or early fall.
