SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Local residents got the chance to pick up some tulip and other flower bulbs for free.

The town is not wasting any time to beautify its grounds.

Thanks to a donation from "America Responds with Love," which is a non-profit based out of Pennsylvania.

The town of Smithville was able to give out free tulip bulbs at the new agricultural shop to its residents in an effort to help spruce up the landscape.

"These tulip bulbs will enhance Smithville and improve the asthetics of Smithville," adds Kim Johnson, disaster relief & recovery assistant for Smithville. "We're just looking forward to it."

"It's going to help the community of Smithville," added Kellie Estis, Smithville resident. "It's going to be really beautiful once the spring comes and all the flowers are blooming, and I plan on putting some in my front yard as well."

Besides local residents, the town of Smithville also donated tulip and other flower bulbs to area businesses and to other towns coping with the devastation from April 2011.

"We have since donated to areas around our location, communities that are either economically distressed or who were also affected by the tornadoes of 2011," Johnson said.

Once the tulip bulbs are planted and begin to blossom, they will serve as another piece of the recovery puzzle as the town of Smithville is moving forward with reconstruction.

"[We're seeing] new growth," adds Estis. "We're seeing a lot being brought back to this town, putting smiles on people's faces that had sadness for so long."

"With all the devastion and all the rebuilding we have going on now these bulbs are a great indicator of what's to come for Smithville," said Johnson.

So for each bulb that blossoms into a pretty sight to see, residents add it will help signify a bright future.
