SHERMAN, Miss. (WTVA) - Residents in the town of Sherman spent Saturday afternoon celebrating.
The town is now 125 years old and each year when Sherman celebrates a birthday it is commonly refered to as "Founders Day."
Local leaders joined together with residents at Sherman's Town Hall for a momentus occasion.
Following a reception, plans called for music, entertainment and a fireworks show.
The town, despite a small population, is rich in history, has a rich legacy and local residents say that's what makes Sherman a special place in which to live and work.
"Sherman is special," said Martha Swindle, Founders Day Committee. "We have 600 [in] population but the main thing is we're known as the Heart of the Tri-Counties because we cover Pontotoc County, Lee County and Union County. We have residents in all three. So we're really a bedroom community to Tupelo, Pontotoc and New Albany."
