TISHOMINGO COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA)-- Tishomingo County investigators say a disagreement between two men led to an early Friday morning shooting on County Road 958.

Sheriff Glen Whitlock says the suspect and victim are friends.

Investigators say Kevin Swinney, 30, shot James Bennett in the leg.

"So far, prelimary indications are that these two men had been together," said Whitlock. "They had all been together. There were four guys together at one point last night. They had broken up. And the party group, whatever meeting they had, two of them had gone home. And this shooter, asked to spend the night with the victim. And he said yes. And at some point during the night or early morning hours an argument or situation occured between the two men."

Whitlock says Swinney took the victim's cell phone and his white Chevrolet pickup.

Some eight hours later, Bennett was able to crawl to the side of County Road 958 where he was discovered by a passerby.

Whitlock says Swinney used the victim's truck as a getaway vehicle, ditched it and was picked up and carried to Corinth.

U.S. Marshals, Corinth Police, the Alcorn County Sheriff's Deparrtment, and Tishomingo County authorities searched for Swinney.

By late Friday afternoon, the sheriff received word that Swinney was willing to turn himself in at the urgence of his family members.

He also asked to speak to one particular Tishomingo County deputy whose name was not released.

Swinney is behind bars and charged with aggravated assault and grand larceny.

Bennett is listed in serious condition, but may have to get his foot amputated, according to investigators.
