HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA) -- A 2006 Chevrolet Impala was pulled from a creek on Highway 15 North in Woodland Tuesday night.
What was originally believed to be a car accident turned into something more.
"The car was off in a creek. They were going to perform life-saving stuff and CPR on the scene. Once they got him out of the car, there was evidence there. They knew he had been assaulted," Chickasaw County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Jim Meyers said.
Fifty-six-year-old John Wofford was pulled from the vehicle where it was determined he had been stabbed in the back.
In custody is Brecker Johnson.
Investigators say this incident stems from a domestic dispute that took place at a house on 105 Hill Street in Woodland.
This follows the April discovery of the body of 76-year-old William Ray Bevills at his home on Aberdeen Road.
When officers arrived, they found the house locked with a back window knocked out.
Foul play is suspected. Strong leads are being pursued.
Will Porter is accused of stabbing his wife to death.
Twenty-three-year-old Amanda Porter's body was found in February inside her home on Highway 8 just east of Houston.
Three homicides practically back-to-back has the locals talking.
"That's a little unusual for Chickasaw County. We're not used to that much publicity," Tim Callahan said.
"I know that we have great law enforcement and I really think they're on top of things. I'm so very sad, but I actually feel safe," Judy McQuary said.
"I don't get out that much. I don't get out that much, so that kind of worries me," Eddie Smith said.
Johnson will be formally charged with murder Thursday in Chickasaw County.
