PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision Friday night that killed three people on Highway 278 in Pontotoc County.
Corporal Ray Hall says troopers were called to the accident around 8:35 p.m. near Beulah Grove Road.
Troopers believe Margel Swann, 51, of New Albany was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when the vehicle collided head-on with a car driven by Connie Malone, 43, of Thaxton.
Swann was ejected from his vehicle and died on the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Malone and Christopher Ensey, 43, of Baldwyn died at the scene from injuries suffered in the crash.
Timothy Malone, 38, of Thaxton, was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo with serious injuries.
A 9-year-old child was taken by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo with moderate injuries.
All of the people in Malone's vehicle were wearing seat belts.
Troopers are investigating to see if alcohol contributed to the accident.
