STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Starkville school teacher has been suspended with pay following his arrest this past weekend.
School officials say Jason Young, 29, was notified of the decision on Friday.
Young was arrested early Sunday morning by Oktibbeha County deputies on charges of DUI-second, assaulting a law officer, fleeing from a law officer, malicious mischief, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Sheriff's officials say deputies had stopped Young and he became involved in a struggle with one of them.
They says Young managed to get back in his vehicle and deputies followed him to his home and arrested him.
The assault and fleeing charge are felonies.
Starkville school officials say they did not become aware of the arrest until Thursday.
They say Young teachers history and social studies.
School officials say it is the second time he has been arrested for DUI since going to work for the school district.
SSD spokesperson Nicole Thomas says the district is continuing to review the case and is following state law when it comes to the suspension.
