TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Take 250 participants, more than a hundred dishes and some fun, and you have what organizers call the Taste of Tupelo.
The event took place at the BancorpSouth Arena, where the goal was to raise money for north Mississippi girls to attend a Girls Camp located in Alabama.
Organizers say the girls will learn a variety of life-saving skills at the camp
"Girls camp teaches survival skills. It teaches leadership skills," project organizer Missy Barnett said. "A lot of young women don't realize just what they are capable of until you put the the task in front of them, until you challenge them. And once they realize that, their self-esteem soars."
Also on hand Saturday evening was organizer Robin Powell, wife of WTVA's Drew Powell.
