TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Lee County supervisors have voted to allow Tupelo to take over fire protection in newly annexed parts of the city.
The move will affect residents who live in parts of seven volunteer fire districts in the county.
County Administrator Sean Thompson says those residents faced the possibility of paying the county departments and the city of Tupelo for fire protection.
He says this morning's vote will remove the "double-taxation" for those residents.
