STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- Mississippi's Small Business Development Centers provide a variety of services to thousands of residents each year.
But, a lot of folks are unaware that these centers are part of a joint effort between universities, community colleges, the state of Mississippi and the Small Business Association.
"Mississippi State's Small Business Development Center is part of a network of small business development centers across the state and across the nation. There are eight centers in Mississippi with some additional business assistance centers. So, there should be every place in the state with services available to them," said Debbie Scott, director for the Mississippi State Small Business Development Center.
These centers offer free resources like seminars and one-on-one counseling.
These programs aim to promote small businesses and help those who are looking to start a small company.
"There are things that I didn't know and there are things that I knew, but working with SBA they helped me figure out things. Certain things about taxes, accounting, any facet of the business. They've been able to guide," said small business owner Christian Brown.
Casey Wells of Ackerman plans to open a store and gas station in Eupora.
"Money is a major concern. This [seminar] being free, it's not going to cost anything. That will be less on our budget to get a business up and running. So it'll be great," said Wells.
