TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Mississippi House Speaker Phillip Gunn continued his Mississippi Ideas Tour in north Mississippi Tuesday morning with a stop in Tupelo.

A crowd gathered at the Tupelo City Council Chambers to let Gunn know what was on their mind when it comes to state government and the key issue seemed to be education.

The conversations focused on early childhood education, teacher pay and pensions and charter schools.

"You know education and health care are two of the biggest expenditures in state government.  We have a lot of repeated themes about that-ow can we improve education.  We are trying to get Mississippi off the bottom," Mississippi House of Representatives Speaker Philip Dunn said.

The meeting lasted nearly 90 minutes.

Gunn continues the tour with a stop at the Columbus Municipal Complex and other areas of the state.
