STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies has awarded the Starkville Police Department national accreditation.

Chief David Lindley says the department was told of the honor Saturday night.

CALEA was in the Golden Triangle in June to review the rules, regulations, and general orders.

The agency was reviewing records to make sure the department was complying with those standards and for proof they were following them.

SPD officials met again with the commission last week in Jacksonville, Florida.

Lindley says CALEA is the "gold standard" when it comes to gaining accreditation.

He says he is proud of the hard work by members of the department in attaining the award.

The Starkville Police Department is the sixth law enforcement agency in the state to receive CALEA accreditation.
