STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - A group of Starkville students who have a love of gardening is going to a national competition.

Earlier this month, students who are part of the Millsaps Nursery and Landscape team won first place at the state's FFA competition.

They'll now move on to the national contest later this year.

With their own greenhouses and more on campus, students say this is a great opportunity to learn about fields they're very interested in.

Junior Britton Walker said, "I had to identify shrubs, weeds and diseases. I also had to do a general knowledge exam. I'm from an agricultural family, so it boosted my background even more."

Also underway this month is the Millsaps horticulture group's plant sale.

These are plants the students grow throughout the year with money raised going back into the FFA program.
