TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A historic fixture in Tupelo now has a new address.

The Spain House was moved Friday from Madison and Magazine streets to its new location at Church and Carnation streets.  Its original location was on Main Street.

The house was split into sections so workers could transport it, and they said everything went as planned.

"We got the first part in. It's pretty much over the foundation," said John Williams, owner of Kosciusko House Movers. "It needs a little adjustment. Once we get it in position, we will bring the second part in and take the tarps off it and then roll it together and start reattaching it in the main structural areas."

With two of the three sections of the house being at least 50 feet tall, Tupelo Water & Light had to move power lines before the house could be moved to its new location.

"We set some new concrete poles in here and had to take down a street light," said Norman Cruse, a city electrical engineer, "and we actually had to move some primary cable of ours too."

"I wish it had been where we had enough clearance where we could move it all intact without cutting it too," added Williams. "That's been such a challenge trying to get it cut and to where it will go back together all right."

Work on putting the house together at the new site is expected to resume Friday if there's good weather.
