MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Friday night plane crash near Hamilton leaves the pilot injured but alive, according to authorities.
Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said Ricky Ford III crashed in an area behind the Tronox plant.
Ford originally left Irvington, Ala., Friday afternoon at around 3 p.m.
He landed at the airport in Louisville, Miss., to fuel up at approximately 8 p.m., according to Cantrell, but Ford said nobody was available to help him, so he took off again and tried to make it.
The sheriff said Ford crashed at approximately 11 p.m. Friday.
The full extent of his injuries is not known, but they're not believed to be serious.
Cantrell said it could be days before the plane is removed because the crash site could be on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property.
Cantrell said the Federal Aviation Administration has been contacted and the crash remains under investigation.
