AMORY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Make them feel special.

That's the goal of the first annual Senior Citizens Appreciation Day in Amory.

All the preparations by Legacy Hospice paid off with smiles.

Amory's Frisco Park was the setting of the event which included entertainment by our very own Kay Bain.

Senior Citizen heroes were honored.

The oldest male and female senior citizen were recognized with special crowns.

"They've never done nothing like this and I think it's wonderful and because when you are a senior citizen (it) seems like everybody forgets you," Jean Tartt said.

"If I ever get in bad health I look forward to the good services people provide for their citizens," Lawrence "Rabbit" Kennedy said.

Senior Citizens Appreciation day also included food prepared in good, old-fashioned cookout style.
