ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) - A second civil lawsuit has been filed against former high school football coach Dwight Bowling and the Monroe County School District.
The lawsuit was filed in Monroe County Circuit Court back in December by a person who says he was a student at Smithville from 2004 until 2010.
He accuses Bowling of sexually abusing him.
Court documents say the former student is asking for actual and punitive damages from Bowling and the school district for negligence, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress and intentional assault and battery.
The case is being handled by the same attorney who is representing another former student suing Bowling and the school district in federal court.
The lawsuit in Circuit Court is included in paperwork filed in U.S. District Court on Thursday by Arcadia Insurance Company against Bowling, the school district and the two people who have filed civil lawsuits.
Arcadia says in its court filing the actions Bowling is accused of happened before they insured the school district and language in the policy excludes acts related to sexual abuse or sexual molestation.
Bowling pleaded guilty last year to federal and state charges that came from sex abuse allegations against him.
