School district interviews local administrator

BESSEMER, Ala. (WTVA) _ An assistant superintendent in the Starkville school district is one of the finalists for the top job in Bessemer, Alabama.

A Birmingham newspaper reports Dr. Walter Gonsulin, Jr. will undergo a final interview in the next few days.

Gonsulin began his education career in Louisiana in 1991 and has worked in both the Columbus and Starkville school districts.

He also worked for six years at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette before being hired as an assistant superintendent in the Starkville School District in 2007.

He and Fred Primm, Jr. of Sumter County, Alabama are the two finalists for the position.

A Bessemer, Alabama school official tells WTVA.com the board is scheduled to meet Thursday night at 5:30.

The new superintendent is expected to be announced June 6th.
