CONWAY, Ark. (WTVA) -- A preliminary report says an Oxford man at the controls of an airplane was attempting to return to an Arkansas airport when the plane lost power and crashed.

The National Transportation Safety Board published the report on the November 6 crash in at the Denis F. Cantrell Field Airport in Conway on its website.

Robert Allen, 65, died of injuries suffered in the crash.

Allen departed the Arkansas airport on a flight to University-Oxford Airport.

Shortly after takeoff, witnesses reported the plane sound like it was having some sort of engine trouble.

The NTSB report says Allen was trying to return to the airport when the plane lost power.

The aircraft hit trees and a fence and the fuselage was heavily damaged.

The crash remains under investigation and a final report will be released at a later date.
