TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - If the list of volunteers so far is any indication....this year's Lee County Relay for Life could be one of the biggest ever.

Tonight, the organization which raises money to help fight cancer, kicked off its awareness campaign in Tupelo.

Volunteers say they hope to have 50 teams and 100 cancer survivors to participate in the actual relay which is scheduled for this summer.

This event was to help get information out about the relay and encourage residents to form teams to help raise money.

Event Co-Chairperson, Donna Kingsley says, "I became involved in the relay back in 1995.  It began with my grandmother when she was diagnosed with cancer.  And, most recently I lost my mother to liver cancer.  She passed away in October of this past year.  So, it's something that is extremely important to me, and I'm very passionate about it and want to help find a cure."

2010 Relay chairperson says, "I am a one year and two month breast cancer survivor is how I got invovled in relay and I lost my father when I was fifteen to liver cancer. And, that's how I get involved."
