TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - There's always a lot going on at the Regional Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo.
But recently, there was a little extra traffic in the hallways and rooms of the center.
This was one of the days set aside during the year that the Rehab Center brings in out-of-town specialists who are able to see their own patients here locally.
Rehab Center Director Kay Mathews said, "Approximately 100 children are scheduled to come in for an evaluation, re-check, follow up, monitoring or that type of situation. The physicians are coming from LeBonheur and they're pediatric specialists who work with these children."
Patients say it's a big convenience and a good experience in general coming to the Rehab Center instead of traveling to offices located sometimes hours away.
Evan Trease of Hamilton said, "I'm not missing a full day of school or anything like that. They've got great senses of humor and make me feel at ease here."
The doctors and other specialists say with the Rehab Center opening its doors to them and their patients, it's an example of another important service provided to people in this area.
Jack Steele with the Center for Orthotics and Prosthetics said, "It's certainly exciting for us to be able to come to the Tupelo area to provide this type of service. It's certainly worthwhile to the patients who don't have to travel to Memphis. The services are readily available."
Dr. Bill Warner with the Campbell Clinic said, "The center is great. It allows us a place to see the patients and a room to examine them in. They help take care of them and it makes it easy for them to get back and forth from home."
The Regional Rehab Center says this clinic is just one way it can give back to a community that's been so generous over the years.
