BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - The MSU Extension Service Office in Booneville is serving as one of the many Food For Families collection sites in north Mississippi.

It's there that food donations go in either the Bulldog or Rebel stack of food.

Shelaine Pennington with Prentiss County's MSU Extension Service said, "We now know the outcome of the Egg Bowl. Here in Prentiss County, we want to find out the winner of the food bowl."

MSU and Ole Miss fans are being challenged to see which ones can bring in the most food.

Pennington said, "Leading up to the Egg Bowl this year there were so many negative comments made, especially on Facebook. It put both of our fans in a bad light. I wanted to turn that into a positive and show our fans are giving fans. This is a way for them to prove it."

There's even a donation box for a house divided, where families have both MSU and Ole Miss fans.

Even though donations are being accepted an an MSU Extension Service office, Ole Miss fans are still encouraged to come by and give.

Pennington said, "A lot of dog fans will donate here, especially our 4-H kids and our Mississippi Homemaker groups. We beg Ole Miss fans to please donate. As you can see right now from our display, MSU is winning."

And that's why any and all donations are needed.

It's not just to show support for your favorite team, but to help those who are less fortunate living right in our own backyards.

Pennington said, "At the end of the food drive, we'll take some cattle scales and we're going to weigh all of the food that's been collected. We're going to see who the heftiest givers are here in Prentiss County."

So whether it's the Rebels or the Bulldogs, every donation is appreciated.
