NETTLETON, Miss. (WTVA) -- Northern District Commissioner Brandon Presley says its time the Public Service Commission conducted a formal review of electric utilities' metering policies and procedures.
Presley made the request after the discovery that Entergy overbilled Hernando High School in Desoto County over $1,200,000 in electric bills over a 10-year period.
Presley suggests allowing Public Utilities Staff to work in conjunction with the commission to conduct the review of investor owned utilities and power associations.
He says he has witnessed a growing problem with over and under billing due to problems with meters.
Presley says the review would look at the frequency of testing, how utilities correct meter problems, and how problems are reported to the PSC by the utilities.
He says the Commission's current rules need to be reviewed to ensure they safeguard customers.
Presley also says utilities should pay interest to customers as fair compensation.
He says the formal review will produce a proposal he will present to the PSC during its June meeting.
