WASHINGTON (WTVA) — President Obama has declared four local counties federal disaster areas.

That declaration clears the way for federal money to help people in Itawamba, Lee, Lowndes and Winston counties who were affected by Monday's tornado.

Counties, governments and certain non profit organizations can also apply to be reimbursed for costs that have come about because of the storm.

Other counties in Mississippi declared federal disaster areas are Madison, Rankin and Wayne.
