SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) — Residents of Smithville got an update on the town's recovery from the April 2011 tornado during Tuesday's State of the Town address.

Officials said one sign of improvement is with sales tax revenues.

From October 2011 to January 2012, the town's sales tax revenues came in at just under $19,000.

From October 2012 to January 2013, those revenues are more than $22,000.

Many businesses were destroyed when the twister came through along Highway 25.

Officials also pointed out that more than $851,000 in tornado-related infrastructure projects have been completed.
