PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) -- Pontotoc residents celebrated the legacy of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Saturday evening at the Second Baptist Church.

The theme for this year's program was "Continuing the Legacy of the MLK Dream" and featured a variety of song interpretation as well as a rendition of the famous "I Have A Dream" speech that King himself delivered in Washington D.C. in 1963.

Saturday night's guest speaker was Carrie Ball-Williamson, the athletic director at Itawamba Community College and a native of Pontotoc.

"[We talked] about giving service in the community. It's always important to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., but it's always important to be active in your community at all times," Ball-Williamson said. "[One should do it] not just on this holiday weekend but every day of the year because King was a man of action who put his life on the line every day."

WTVA's very own Sunya Walls served as master of ceremonies for the event.
