WATER VALLEY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Water Valley police are investigating a shooting incident at a private party on Saturday night.

Police Chief Mike King says officers responded to a shooting on South Main Street in Downtown Water Valley around 10:15 p.m.

He says officers found Bobby G. Hervey, 42, of Taylor inside the building suffering from two gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Hervey was airlifted to the MED in Memphis where he remains hospitalized.

King says Calvin Alford, Jr., 37, of Yalobusha County fled the scene after firing the shots and was spotted on Railroad Avenue by officers.

He says when they approached, Alford shot himself in the head.

He was airlifted from the scene, but died Sunday morning.

King says both men were among nearly 100 people at the party being held in the building that once housed Doc's Table restaurant.

He says the Hervey and Alford were apparently involved in an on-going dispute.

King says Alford approached Hervey, pulled out the large caliber handgun, and shot him twice.

An autopsy has been ordered.

The shooting remains under investigation.
