COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - A 23-year-old Columbus man has been charged with capital murder in the death of another man last year.

Columbus police tell WTVA.com tonight that Myron Sewell faced an initial appearance in court today for the murder of William Vaughn.

According to previous reports that murder happened on September 23, 2011.

Authorities say Sewell was already in jail in Lowndes County and serving time for sexual battery, kidnapping and armed robbery related to a crime that happened on January 16 of this year at a laundromat in Columbus.

Sewell's bond in that case was set at a $500,000.

In the murder case, police say the 41--year-old Vaughn was found lying face down in the road on 20th Street when officers responded to a reported shooting.

Authorities at that time said it appeared Vaughn had just walked out into his yard when he was shot by someone in a passing vehicle.
