VERONA, Miss. (WTVA) -- Verona's police chief says one person is dead and another remains injured after authorities responded to a "shots fired" call Friday evening.

Chief Anthony Anderson said it happened at Jay's Enterprises, an apartment complex office on S. Raymond Avenue.

Upon arriving, authorities found one person deceased and another injured. Paramedics transported the injured individual to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Anderson said at this point, the incident could have been an armed robbery or even a hate crime. Anderson said they don't have any leads regarding a suspect at this point.

The name of the deceased individual has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Anderson said slugs were found at the scene. He said the deceased individual had been shot at least once. The other individual had been shot two or three times, according to the chief.
