STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- If you're planning to grow, you need a plan, right?

That's the concept behind a new study to be conducted in north Mississippi which focuses on transportation.

The Tanglefoot Trail which runs from New Albany to Houston is among the forms of transportation that will be factored into the study headed up by the University of Florida.

A number of universities are participating.

Mississippi State University's Carl Small Town Center will make contact with north Mississippi cities and come up with a variety of scenarios using the information they gather from officials and on site.

Now, they may think they have plenty of space to grow, but with all the economic development in north Mississippi like the Toyota plant and the other developments happening in that region, they're gonna grow very, very quickly," Center Director Dr. John Poros said.

All data retrieved in the study will be given back to towns as a tool for development.
