TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- An aircraft landed safely at the Tupelo Regional Airport after pilots reported one engine lost power during the flight.

David Smith, FBO Manager with Tupelo Aviation Unlimited, says the plane landed around 11 a.m. Friday.

Tupelo firefighters were notified of the incident around 10:45 and responded to the airport as a precaution.

They tell WTVA.com six people were on board the aircraft.

Smith says the pilots did an excellent job of landing the plane under power with one engine.

He says pilots are required to have extensive single engine training prior to receiving commercial, multi-engine certification.

The aircraft, a Swearingen Merlin, was in route to Tupelo from St. Louis when the engine shutdown.
