TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Tupelo police say they have received several reports of a scam circulating the city.

Police say a person posing as an official with Tupelo Water and Light has been calling city residents and demanding payment.

The caller tells people they must put their money into an account given by the caller or risk having their electric service cut off.

Tupelo Water and Light authorities say they do not collect payments over the phone and informed residents to refrain from giving the caller any information.

Anyone who receives a similar call or has questions regarding the scam can call Tupelo Water and Light.
