WASHINGTON (WTVA) -- The Hartz Mountain Corporation is voluntarily withdrawing its Hartz Chicken Chews and Hartz Oinkies Pig Skin Twists wrapped with Chicken for dogs.

The company took the action after trace amounts of unapproved antibiotic residue were found in samples of the product.

Hartz officials say while a majority of samples tested did not show evidence of the residue, the company would rather be overly cautious and volutarily withdraw the products from the market.

The antibiotics in question are approved for use in poultry in China, the European Union, and other countries, but are not approved in the United States.

There have been no known pet illnesses to date associated with the consumption of these products.

No other Hartz products are affected by this withdrawal.

If you have these products, contact the Hartz Consumer Affairs team at 1-800-275-1414 for a refund.
