OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- Representatives of non-profits and organizations with volunteer needs had the opportunity Tuesday to learn all about social media.
Two communications specialists instructed the class at Oxford's Activity Center how to better serve the community and how a non-profit organization can reach out beyond the community through social media.
"You know, you have 140 characters on Twitter to get a message out, but then it can go viral," said Ryan Whittington, a communications specialist. "It can get shared. Same thing with Facebook. Everybody is on Facebook. Our presentation will say, 'You know, babies are on Facebook. Grandparents are on Facebook.' Anybody can do it."
"We're going to stress it's important to pick which target audiences you want to reach and pick different types of social media that will allow you to reach those audiences," added Lindsey Abernathy, another communications specialist.
The interactive presentation also served as a networking opportunity while people got a course on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.
