TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) — People interested in becoming a police officer for the Tupelo Police Department or working at the department in a civilian role had the chance to apply in person.

The second annual Tupelo Police Department Job Fair started bright and early Friday morning.

Everyone applying for a police officer's job is required to take some physical fitness tests.  They include an agility run and a 1.5 mile run.  Those applicants must also take an essay test.

Civilian job applicants just have to take the essay test.

This marks the second time in one year the department has held a job fair.

"It makes the hiring process a whole lot easier," adds Mark Miller, a captain with the Tupelo Police Department. "It gives us a pool to choose from as far as the hiring process. Makes everything a whole lot quicker and easier as far as the police department is concerned."

The job fair will resume Saturday. All interested applicants need to be inside the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center by 8 a.m.
