TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Natchez Trace Parkway officials are increasing patrols in the area around the Chickasaw Village Historic Site in Tupelo after a report of a man pointing a gun at two runners Wednesday night.

Chief Ranger Sarah Davis says around 8:25 p.m., two girls were running toward the village site and were about 150 yards from the parking lot when they say a man wearing black plants and a black hoodie.

The girls stopped and Davis says the man raised a gun and pointed it in their direction.

The two ran in seperate directions into the woods to get away.

One of the girls was picked up by a woman driving a red Mini-Cooper.

Davis says investigators would like to talk to the driver and see if they have information that could help with their investigation.

Anyone with information can call (800) 300-7275.

Davis says people need to remember the Chickasaw Village site closes at sunset.
