Parsons to lead new MSU safety office

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- A veteran Mississippi State University researcher has been named director of the new Environmental Health and Safety Office.
 
Michael S. Parsons began his new duties in July. He will lead the MSU's environmental and occupational safety efforts.
 
Parsons had worked as a research associate at MSU's Institute for Clean Energy Technology for 12 years. He also served as campus hazardous waste officer for 11 years.
 
Parsons holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Millsaps College and a master's degree in chemistry from Mississippi State in 1989. He holds a certified hazardous materials manager designation from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management.
 
The new EH&S office will develop, manage and implement policies and programs related to occupational safety, environmental management and fire protection.
