TUPELO, Miss (WTVA) -- Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter, but Oscar had a different outlook on Groundhog Day.
The Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo hosted its own Groundhog Day ceremony with Oscar, a resident at the park.
Unlike Phil, Oscar did not see his shadow on Thursday morning which means an early spring could be in store for the region.
Park officials say Oscar's prediction makes sense, considering the unseasonably warm temperatures this winter.
This is the first year the Tupelo Buffalo Park has turned to a local groundhog for the forecast.
Organizers at the park say they want to make the groundhog ceremony an annual event. They claim the Groundhog Day forecast is likely more accurate coming from a local groundhog.
Oscar is about one-year-old and he came to the park last year.
