MAYHEW, Miss. (WTVA) -- Lowndes County authorities are investigating an overnight shooting that left one person dead.
Chief Deputy Mark Miley tells WTVA.com deputies were called to the scene of a shooting at the Crossroads Lounge on Highway 182 West near the Oktibbeha County line shortly before midnight.
He says when deputies arrived, the victim had been taken to the OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant says Tremaine Macon, 23, of Starkville died a short time after arriving at the hospital.
He says Macon died of a gun shot wound, but would not release further details pending an autopsy scheduled for Friday.
Miley says the shooting happened inside the nightclub.
He says a juvenile has been taken into custody.
Miley says the incident remains under investigation.
