LACKEY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Monroe County officials are on the scene of what they describe as a puppy mill.

Sheriff Cecil Cantrell estimates there to be 100 dogs inside and out of a small, rural Monroe County house on Center Hill Road.

Cantrell says the dogs were living in deplorable circumstances and appeared to be malnourished.

The stench of so many confined animals is evident yards away from the structure.

The animals have been turned over to the Amory Humane Society.

Authorities are searching for the resident of the home, Cindy Ann House Umbrel, 40, of Hamilton, Mississippi.

They say she is wanted by Lowndes County authorities in an unrelated case, but say charges are pending in Monroe County.
