NEW HOPE, Miss. (WTVA) -- "This is my brother-in-law's trailer. If he had been in the trailer last night, then it would have probably killed him. The wall fell on where his bed was," Lowndes County resident Betty Miller said.
It was a scary night for so many in the New Hope area.
Four mobile homes were destroyed in a mobile home park located close to the Alabama state line on Highway 182.
One man was trapped in his shower.
"They dug him out of the shower and one was in his truck," said mobile home park resident James Miller.
"It's devastating," Miller added.
"Everybody says it sounds like a train. It was just a big roaring sound," said New Hope resident Senator Terry Brown.
His home and others in the New Hope vicinity are without power.
Numerous lines are down.
There are trees on houses and debris everywhere.
"Big gaping hole in the bedroom and there was a big branch sticking through it. We got up this morning and we've been going ever since," said Butch Bell.
In all, close to eighty homes are damaged or destroyed. The majority of the damage is in east Columbus and southern Lowndes County.
