FULTON, Miss. (WTVA) --Out with the old and in with the new.
Workers in Fulton are removing the old lighting in city buildings and replacing them with more energy efficient bulbs.
It's a change most people may not notice at first, but for Mayor Paul Walker, he noticed the change instantly.
"I can see in here now. It's a lot brighter no doubt about that," said Walker.
City Clerk Lisa Russell said she is also seeing the benefits of the project.
"I really didn't realize until they put the new ones(lights) in how much darker it was in here," said Russell.
A total of 672 lights will be replaced through the project. It will cost the city roughly $140,000. But leaders say the benefits outweigh the cost.
"Not only to save money for the city as a whole, but also [to encourage others] to start doing it also," said Walker
Leaders said the city will save approximately $33,000 a year on electric bills and add to that the savings from replacing the water and gas meters, the city stands to save even more money.
