TOKYO, Japan (WTVA/AP) -- A new partnership with a Toyota Motor Corp. supplier could mean big things for the future of next-generation hybrids like the Prius and other models.

It could also accelerate demand for facilities which are slated to build the Prius, like the Toyota Mississippi plant at Blue Springs.

Toyota Tsusho Corp. has partnered with an australian miner to develop a lithium mine in northwestern Argentina.

Lithium is a key component of cell phone and laptop batteries. Its application is expected to grow in the coming years for plug-in hybrids and pure-electric cars.
