NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) -- New Albany residents are speaking out in a loud manner for the first time since the murder of Amanda Price.

Neighbors are calling for city leaders to buy what they say is an eyesore in the community.

"I think with what's happened on our street, we never ever want that to happen again to anybody that lives on our street, town or community," said New Albany resident Melissa Tate.

Vehicles at Tate's home were burglarized just down the street, on the same night of Amanda Price's murder.

Now, along with other Murrah Street residents, she's working on starting a local neighborhood watch group.

"The night of the murder our cars were unlocked, keys were in the cars. All of our doors were unlocked," she added. "That's just the kind of town that we've had or neighborhood we've had. I've never been scared to walk outside but we have been since then."

Other concerned people in New Albany showed up in favor of the city purchasing Eastwood Trailer Park during a Monday night town hall meeting.

You may remember this was the place authorities tracked down 20-year-old Craig O'Brien Baker who is charged with Price's murder.

"Well its always been a problem but there's been really nothing we can do, then the murder came along and the owner came out willing to sell," said Ward 4 Alderman Will Tucker.

According to Tucker it's the only trailer park in New Albany, and the asking price is over $700,000.

He says according to the police chief it's a common place the department visits. Tucker says the only solution is to buy it ,where it could be used to house the city's light, water and gas departments.

"The people that live there tend to rent from week-to-week. A lot of crime a lot and drug activity," Tucker said.

Many residents have placed purple ribbons along Murrah Road as a symbol they mean business in looking out for one another.

"I think it's a big step. I think with Ron starting to speak out. I think with all that going on it makes us feel like it's time for us to step out," Tate continued.

New Albany Board of Aldermen may vote on this issue in their meeting Tuesday night at 5:30.

It's set to be held in city hall, but could be moved to the local civic center if there's a large turnout
