VERONA, Miss. (WTVA) - The new director of the Lee County Agri-Center in Verona has been on the job since mid-March and says he's encouraged by what's ahead for the facility.

Wednesday, Torrey Mitchell and the Ag Center played host to 600 young people who participated in a science and engineering field day.

The Agri-Center includes the actual building but also close to 100 acres of land and a three and a half acre pond.

Mitchell says he hopes to utilize all of the available assets to make the Lee County Agri-Center successful.

Mitchell said, "Our focus is young people and partnering with the schools. We want educational field trips and having a new place for all the schools around us to come to. We're going to have a big fall harvest time and agri-education time for the kids to come out."

Mitchell says he's working on other activities at the Lee County Agri-Center and hopes to release details on them as soon as possible.
