EGYPT, Miss. (WTVA) - Law enforcement in Monroe County said an argument between two brothers led to one of them stabbing the other in the back.

For two neighbors who helped the victim, it was a situation they weren't expecting.

"It shocked me because he never talks to us," said Norma Clay, neighbor who assisted the victim in receiving medical attention.

Norma's sister Lamonica Calver was also on the scene, and she said, "This is a nice peaceful area out here. We never have trouble...nothing like this before."

The Monroe County Sheriff's Dept. arrested Cory Bailey for stabbing his brother, Shonderick Bailey, in the back with a knife.

According to Sheriff Cecil Cantrell, it was fairly easy to find out who was responsible for the crime.

"We got down there, and he said he stabbed his brother," Cantrell said. "And basically, we just put him under arrest, and he's going to be charged with aggravated assault."

Norma Clay said she was sitting outside under a tree when Shonderick walked up with the knife still in his back, so she rushed inside, grabbed her keys and offered to drive him to the hospital.

"When I came back outside, he had collapsed in my yard," Clay said.

She then called 911 and her sister to get further help.

Lamonica Calver said when she arrived at her sister's home, Shonderick was on the ground, bleeding profusely.

Officials say the victim was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center.

Calver said she has lived in the neighborhood her entire life and was shocked to see the crime.

"I know families argue sometimes, Calver said. "But I just would have never imagined this happening."

She's not the only one who's surprised at the situation.

"As far as I know, neither one of them has ever been in trouble," Sheriff Cantrell said. "I've never had any trouble out of these guys. It's a real peaceful community down here. I'm surprised we had to come out here."

Calver said she's known the brothers her whole life and hopes the situation is resolved.

"I'm just praying for Shonderick to get better," she said.

Late Wednesday night, a North Mississippi Medical Center spokesperson told WTVA Shonderick Bailey is in good condition.
