LISLE, Ill. (WTVA) - Navistar Defense has announced a new contract to provide armored cabs for vehicles used for troop, fuel, and cargo transport in Afghanistan.

The company announced Tuesday it received an urgent delivery order from the U.S. Army to retrofit 205 armored cabs onto Navistar Medium Tactical Vehicles currently designated for service with the Afghan National Security Forces.

The work on the $23 million contract will be done in West Point.

Company officials say they will replace the current commercial cab with a specially designed armored cab to protect from ballistic and blast threats.

The order also calls for enhancing additional vehicle elements for improved survivability to provide ANSF with the capability to conduct route clearance missions with mine roller applications.

Navistar has provided nearly 9,000 MTVs for use in Afghanistan for a variety of missions, including troop transport.

The upgrades will begin in April and are expected to be completed sometime in July.
